OVERVIEW OF THE CONDUCTING MASTERCLASS
This Masterclass is intended to be a preparation for Blue Danube/Bela Bartok International Opera Conducting Competition 2020 (8th Edition) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania with the Hungarian Opera Cluj, but is nevertheless, open to all conductors. The Blue Danube Opera Conducting Masterclass 2020 is limited to the first qualified 11 conductors who apply, are accepted, and confirm their places with a deposit. An unlimited number of auditors will be accepted at the reduced rate of €350.
EACH CONDUCTOR RECEIVES
– private and group coaching;

– 20 minutes of orchestra rehearsal for each opera;
– 15 minutes of choir rehearsal for each opera;
– 20 minutes of Sitzprobe/Italiana rehearsal for each opera;
– ca. 1/3 of rehearsal with piano and cast / soloists for the opera they conduct in performance;
– 1/3 of General probe / dress rehearsal for the opera they conduct in performance;
– 1/3 of an opera to conduct in public performance.

We are often asked if it is necessary for conductors to know all operas in order to take part in our Opera Conducting Masterclass. The answer is NO; we encourage conductors to divide their podium time between all operas, but some conductors trade podium time with one another so they are able to devote more time to and focus on only one or two operas. In our suggested and standard format, each active-participant conductor conducts a full act or ca. 1/3 of one of the operas in a public performance, in addition to having much rehearsal time on the other two. Please ask us about this point if you have any questions.
