Opera Conducting Masterclass with State Opera Stara Zagora, Bulgaria 12 – 24 SEPTEMBER 2022

We are often asked if it is necessary for conductors to know all operas in order to take part in our Opera Conducting Masterclass. The answer is NO; we encourage conductors to divide their podium time between all operas, but some conductors trade podium time with one another so they are able to devote more time to and focus on only one or two operas. In our suggested and standard format, each active-participant conductor conducts a full act or ca. 1/3 of one of the operas in a public performance, in addition to having much rehearsal time on the other two.
HOW TO APPLY
Please send us the following:
€50 – non-refundable application fee;
€700 – deposit, refundable if the conductor cancels before 1 August 2022 for any substantial reason, such as health problems, impossibility to get a visa or any other such reasons. The reason must be in any case substantiated. In case of refunds, a waiting period of 4 – 6 months is to be expected.

TRANSPORT AND ACCOMMODATION The closest airport to Stara Zagora is the Sofia International Airport in the Bulgarian capital. State Opera Stara Zagora will organize ground transport from the airport to our accommodation and back for all conductors (2 hours and 20 minutes by car/mini-van). Please arrive or be at the airport on Sunday, 12 September.
Bulgarian conductor, Ivaylo Krinchev, graduated in 1989 from the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1989 in opera, symphonic and choral conducting. He undertook additional training in symphonic conducting in Masterclasses with Karl Oesterreicher in Vienna and IIya Musin in St. Petersburg.
Between 1990 and 1995, Maestro Krinchev was resident conductor at Bulgarian State Opera Bourgas and with the Bourgas Philharmonic. During this time, he gained enormous symphonic and operatic conducting experience with a comprehensive repertoire.
Between 1995 and 1997, Krinchev was the general music director and general director of Bulgarian State Opera Bourgas. In 1999, he was appointed artistic director and conductor of the Dutch Impresario Agency, Euro Stage, where he conducted and toured with opera productions and performances in important venues in Spain, France and Switzerland.
Currently, Maestro Krinchev is the principal conductor at State Opera Stara Zagora (Bulgaria) and principal guest conductor at Bulgarian State Opera Bourgas and the Vidin (Bulgaria) Symphony Orchestra. His guest conducting activities include appearances with orchestras and opera companies in Bulgaria and abroad.
Since 2001, Krinchev has been professor of opera and orchestral conducting at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria. Between 2002 and 2006, he was a guest professor of orchestral conducting in Seoul, South Korea. Since then, he has worked closely with different orchestras in South Korea and was invited to conduct new productions of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in 2007 and Verdi’s Aida in 2018 in Gwangju, South Korea.
Since 2016, Maestro Kinchev has served as vice rector of the Academic Symphony Orchestra and Musical Theater Training programs at the Bulgarian National Academy of Music.
Ivaylo Krinchev has conducted numerous recordings for Bulgarian National Radio and Television.
